Leading Care for Cardiac Arrhythmias

The Florence Wormald Heart & Vascular Institute at St. Elizabeth offers the most comprehensive treatment for irregular heartbeats, also known as cardiac arrhythmias, in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Our electrophysiologists — doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating cardiac arrhythmias  — provide the latest therapies and minimally invasive treatments in our Electrophysiology Lab.

Research-driven Heart Care

Our doctors participate in research to discover new therapies that improve quality of life for people with life-threatening heart irregularities. We’re often the first hospital in the region to offer innovative arrhythmia treatments — treatments that not only relieve symptoms, but cure the underlying cause of the arrhythmia.

We specialize in:

  • Catheter ablation – This minimally invasive procedure destroys the tissue that’s causing the arrhythmia. It can greatly improve or even stop the symptoms of atrial fibrillation (AFib), supraventricular tachycardia, premature ventricular contractions (PVC) and other types of arrhythmias.
  • Implanted pacemakers and defibrillators – These devices control your heartbeat and correct dangerous arrhythmias such as bradycardia. We were the first facility to offer leadless pacemakers and an advanced cardiac resynchronization therapy-defibrillator through clinical trials.
  • Laser lead extraction – Sometimes, the wires (leads) that run from the implantable device to your heart must be removed. Our arrhythmia specialists are experienced in this complex procedure.
  • Watchman – This device can help patients with AFib that is not caused by a heart valve problem who cannot tolerate long-term drug therapy, by blocking the source of blood clots that can cause strokes.

Your heart care team is here to support you and answer questions every step of the way. Our focus is to help you manage your condition and improve your health.
